Compassion Without Collapse: Navigating Vicarious Trauma in Mental Health Care
Vicarious trauma is an inevitable risk for mental health professionals working in high-intensity, trauma-exposed environments. This engaging 3-hour training will provide strategies to prevent burnout, preserve empathy, and sustain professional well-being—without sacrificing the quality of care. Through interactive discussion, case studies, and self-reflection exercises, participants will gain tools to identify early warning signs of compassion fatigue, implement evidence-based resilience practices, and foster organizational cultures that support emotional sustainability.
Course Objectives
1. Define vicarious trauma and differentiate it from related concepts such as burnout and secondary traumatic stress.
2. Identify at least four myths that perpetuate unhealthy expectations of emotional labor in mental health care.
3. Recognize early and advanced signs of vicarious trauma in themselves and colleagues.
4. Describe evidence-based strategies to build resilience and maintain professional boundaries.
5. Develop a personalized action plan to prevent compassion fatigue and sustain emotional well-being.

Fees
$85 per participant. All participants must register by November 7, 2025.
Course Agenda
1:00–1:15 PM – Welcome, introductions, and overview of vicarious trauma
1:15–2:00 PM – Understanding the science of compassion fatigue and burnout
2:00–2:15 PM – Break
2:15–3:00 PM – Resilience tools and practical interventions for individual sustainability
3:00–4:00 PM – Organizational strategies and cultural shifts for long-term well-being
4:00–4:15 PM – Q&A, development of personal action plans, course evaluation
Course Completion Requirements
To receive credits, participants must attend full course, actively participate in activities and submit course evaluation form. Certificates of completion will be issued via email within five (5) business days after, full attendance is verified and evaluation is completed.
Instructor Bio
Efuntomiwa A. Adedeji, LICSW, LCSW-C
Efuntomiwa (“Mimi”) Adedeji is a licensed clinical social worker with over 16 years of experience specializing in trauma, domestic violence, grief and social work training. She is the founder of I Am The Message LLC, a consulting and training company that empowers individuals and organizations to embrace their inherent power through mental health education, leadership development, and cultural sensitivity. Mimi is a sought-after speaker, trainer, and mental health advocate whose workshops blend professional expertise with compassion, humor, and practical tools.
ACE Approval Statement
I Am The Message LLC, ACE Provider #XXXXX, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE approval period: MM/DD/YYYY – MM/DD/YYYY. Social workers completing this course receive 3.0 total continuing education credits including 1.0 general, 1.0 cultural competence, and 1.0 continuing education credits.
Refund/Cancellation Policy
Full refunds will be issued for cancellations recieved via email by November 10, 2025. No refunds after this date. In the rare event that the course is canceled by the instructor, full refunds will be issued.
Evaluation Policy
Training participants are required to complete a training evaluation at the conclusion of each training. This is required in order to receive continuing education credits. Evaluations are emailed to attendees after the training based on the attendance log.
